Faces on the Walls

I just wanted to give you all a quick something to feed your appetite.  Here is a video that I saw a while back but then could never find again until a friend of my forwarded it to me saying "it would be great on my blog."  I then thanked him tremendously and gave him a coupon book of sexual favors (not really, what do you take me for?  Eliza Doolittle?  I'm a good girl I am!)  TED.com, one of my favorite sites, has a competition every year.  The 2011 winner was a man named JR. He is a photographer and an activist and combines the both seamlessly.  Eat up!

Watching someone get dressed.

Hurts: How I Get Dressed from Chris Floyd on Vimeo.

There is one daily ritual that a lot of people don't see others do:  dressing.  Other than what you choose to wear, I feel this is a very telling action.  However, if you are dressed in bad clothes, like those dated rhinestone BeBe shirts, then I don't give two hoots in hell how you get dressed in the morning because you are clearly doing it wrong!

Animate That!

After watching an episode of The Wild Thornberrys last night, I realized how much cartoon was missing in my life.  What happened to the lazy afternoons of Arthur, The Angry Beavers, Hey Arnold, and of course My Little Pony?!  I now long for adult cartoons.  But not the type where the cartoon characters have sex with each other.  I guess that is animated porn.  I mean, who really believes that they are going to have sex with a cartoon one day?  So stop jacking off to it!  But I Degrassi....I mean digress.  Here are two animated short films that are geared towards the adult audience.  The animation is no comparison to Jumanji, but the stories are heart warming.  Enjoy!  (Sorry for all the 1990's references.  I have been seeing a lot of light wash denim on denim and it is making me flashback)

Honest Art

I was recently on HULU and discovered their documentary features.  Gosh, I am behind on technology.  I have been on a documentary kick for the past few months now.  I don't know whether it's the extreme subject of them, like 24 Hours on Craigslist, or the honesty and vulnerabilty that draws me in.  I recommend at least checking them out, even if you aren't a documentary fan.  This past weekend, I watched Waste Land, a 2011 Oscar Nominated film about an artist who travels to the worlds largest landfill in Brazil.  People pick through the trash and find recyclables that can be sold for money.  An artist, Vic Muniz creates portraits of these "pickers" and sells them for thousands of dollars to give back to them.  Let me tell you, I cried and thank goodness the waterproof mascara worked.  Anygay, I present today the work of photographer James Mollison.  These photos are from a book of his called Where Children Sleep.  I bet you can guess which is my favorite...if you can't, I will tell you:  The Beauty Queen.  What a bitch!

The Only Thing I Can Hear

I cannot get this song out of my head.  The best way to experience is to whip your hair while listening to it.  If you don't have long hair, wear a wig.  I like to wear my blonde lace front wig-the worlds greatest accessory.  Pretend you are Beyonce and have a wind fan and then commence lip syncing.  Robyn has had a great comeback.  I had no clue how I knew her until I played her YouTube play list.  You might remember her famous 90's hit Show Me Love.  Ahhh the 1990's, not to be confused with the 1890's (they're a lot different).  If there is one time in fashion I am dreading coming back it is the 90's.   Frosted tips, the Limited Too, and those shirts that were really small when they weren't on you but expanded and made girls look really awkward in their pubescent years, oh and scrunchies.  (PS, I saw some girls wearing some scrunchies and somebody needs to tell them that's not okay)

Pop Up Book

How much fun would reading a book be if it did that huh?  Well, I guess that is a lot of paper cuts.  Speaking of paper cuts, I got my first manicure this past week.  I know, surprise surprise, I thought I would have had a mani pedi and a bikini wax at this point in my life but no, mom and pops wouldn't pay for such excesses.  So I bought myself a $5 manicure (which ended up being $8.50 so I didn't leave a tip and walked out of Happy Nails in Queens like a DIVA).  Goodness gracious, I have gotten off topic.

My Mascara Ran a Little Bit.

Brilliant!  Everybody needs a good sappy, heart wrenching story to put them in their place.  And this video does just that.  I can't believe college students came up with it.  I mean, they are supposed to be funneling beers, gaining weight, and most of them having sex with women...ew...gross.  I just vomited up my dinner of chicken broth.  On that note, tell someone you love them today.

Porcelain Tits.

I don't know what it is about these dolls but I find them oddly romantic and very humorous at the same time.  I mean, who the fuck makes a pregnant, tattooed, naked porcelain doll?!  They are a nice combination of Bratz Dolls and America's Next Top Model contestants.  Marina Bychokova is the creator and I think only someone with a name like that would make doll this crazy.  These just boost my love and adoration for porcelain.

Acrylic tips!? GROSS!

There is nothing I hate more than hearing fake fingernails tap against a hard surface.  It reminds me of no taste and sars (because of the facial masks that the manicurist have to wear.)  But Laurel Roth has created beauty out of a nuisance.  A former park ranger, she quit her job and went into the art world.  Her mediums are usually strange.  The above pieces were made of fake fingernails, barrettes, false eyelashes, fingernail polish, and jewelry.  They are surprisingly beautiful and elegant.  She sure knows how to bring some class to the acrylic nail business.  Kudos for making the impossible happen.
