The only 2nd hand clothes a gay will touch.

Clothes.  Gah, I LOVE them.  I can't have enough of them.  But then again, I can, seeing as I have way too many shirts that I don't wear because mustard just doesn't work for me anymore.  I am much more into cool tones these day.  Well, with all the extra clothes, a pair of artists, called Guerra de la Paz, has created art.  They go to waste gins and second hand stores and get old clothing items and make gorgeous sculptures.  Of course, the rainbow theme is my favorite.  Who doesn't love a good rainbow?

Let me see that FLY

It seems like I have been talking about a lot of "straight" things I have done in my past.  Well, I am going to add to that list.  When I was younger, much young, say in 6th grade, I use to be obsessed with nature.  Not that I hate it now, but I don't mind a fur coat.  Anygay, I once made a fly fishing hook at a friends house.  Of course I would have much preferred it to have a peacock feather in it, but they only had owl feathers, so I made do.  I would have loved for them to end up as beautiful as the ones above.  These are photographs taken by Pelle Bergstrom, a successful still-life photographer from Sweden.  They are just stunning.  Feathers have never looked more beautiful and masculine at the same time.  Gosh, I sure do love feathers!

Bromance

Oh the things that happen when you shotgun beers.  It seems like the "straight" guys who take it come out of the wood works like nymphs.  Well I think this is a little more than a Bromance.  If only we could see what happened next.  This short film is directed by Barry Dignam who also did "Dream Kitchen."  He sure does love the homo erotic themes, and so do I.

LEGO!

Legos were about the straightest thing I touched as a child, next to the pet turtles I had, oh, and then there was that centipede that I bought at a reptiles and insect convention.  But I went to rehab for all those straight things so don't worry, that's in the past.  This Lego art, not something I ever thought I would write about, is done by Nathan Sawaya.  His medium of choice is, of course, Legos.  Apparently, he has more than 1.5 million Legos in his studio.  Now if he could figure out a way to make a portrait of me in Legos, I would like his work even more.

A Gaye Old Time

GingerQueer's Ten rules to a successful party:

1.  Clean your house
Please be a doll and clean your house.  Nobody wants to walk into a bedroom filled with clothes or a picture of you and your last fuck buddy covered in dust
2.  Dress Well
Some of you straighties may not know this, but looks matter (and so does size).
3.  Stock Up
When it comes to alcohol, know your guests.  If they are trashy and tragic, do not get red wine, it will
spill.  If there are a lot of gay men there, get a bottle of vodka per couple.  If there are lesbians, stock
up on either Bud Heavy or a vegan friendly alcoholic beverage.
4.  Decorate
Contrary to popular belief, not all gays can decorate.  If you are looking for a themed party, think outside the box.
My sister's X-mas decorations.  They are the lyrics of "All I want for Christmas is You."  Can't get much gayer than that.

5.  Food
Have an array of finger foods.  Baked Brie is a favorite of mine and it is incredibly easy.  All you do is buy pastry dough and wrap brie in it and bake it.  People think you are a great chef, especially if you cut out little designs with the leftover dough.  And of course, everyone knows someone vegetarian, so don't forget them.
Don't be alarmed if some of you think that it tastes like...you know what I'm talking about, don't think you haven't thought it.

6.  Invite every token you possibly can
You've got to have a spectrum of guests at your party, or what else are you gonna talk about, YOUR SELF?  That would be preposterous.  For example, if you know any drag queens, invite them!  Just go down your list of stereotypes and make sure you have everyone covered.
7.  Be Ready
Make sure that everything is in place before the guests arrive.  Music should be on, Air Conditioning should be set to a good temp (it can be brought down as soon as everyone gets there.  You don't want your guests freezing when they walk in).  Food should be out, and your nose should be powdered.
8.  Life of the Party
Girl, if you aren't the life of the party, then who is gonna be.  You do not want someone steeling your thunder.
I think I have that pink dress.  No seriously, I think I do.

9.  Don't Be Pushy
Don't throw your guests out of your house when you are ready for it to end.  Hopefully, you have friends that know when to leave a party.  If you have that one straggler that is the last to leave and you are tired of talking about their cats, then you have every right to yell at them.  Here are some key phrases you could use for them:
  • I'm tired...bitch
  • When was the last time you checked on your cats.
  • I read an article that said cats that are alone for more than 4 hours at night learn to hate their owners and show no love to them, so who is going to love you now?
  • Get the fuck out of my house!
10.  Drink the leftovers
If you have lightweights that can't finish their drinks, just finish them after they leave.  Nothing a healthy dose of Abreva can't solve.

Chic Cartoons

UN TOUR DE MANEGE from alexis liddell on Vimeo.

Cartoons have never looked so...well gay.  Artists are using cartoons as an art form now, and I am fascinated by it.  The artist is Alexis Liddell, a man from Europe--go figure.  My kids will not be raised on Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network, except for the occasional Angry Beavers and Pepper Anne (because those are definitively the best cartoons ever).  Instead, they will be raised on a steady diet of "pretty" cartoons, and of course 6 small, balanced meals a day to keep their metabolisms in peak condition.

Cloth, Grass, and Pillow make for a fun time.

These instillations are done by a Brooklyn artist, Mathilde Roussel-Giraudy.  Like many artists, here art is meant to question the human.  I love the first piece.  It is called "floating memory," and it is made of 40 handkerchiefs from her grandmother.  Each one of them represents a memory.  It is suspended in air and a fan blows beneath it to create rolling waves.  I love it when artists incorporate personal items.  Now that pillow, I would NOT want to sleep on that.  It looks like it would turn my neck in all the wrong ways.  And I need my beauty rest!

Paper FINALLY has a use!

Delicate, gorgeous, dainty, and white have all been used to describe me, but it also describes the work of Cheong-ah Hwang, a Korean paper artist who is self taught.

Bert Simons is the sculptor of these heads.  He uses photographs of real people and modifies the picture so that it can be folded into a 3-D image.

As you can see, paper is no longer for writing.  Besides, writing on paper was boring and dangerous.  I would love to have one of Bert Simons's heads hung over my mantle like a dear head.  I don't hunt animals, just men (Manhunt joke?)  Anyway, next time you wipe your ass or write something useless down, think of the better potential that roll of toilet paper had.

Katy Perry Can't Sing

This lovely lady is Charity Vance from Little Rock.  I am utterly obsessed with this song and what a beautiful and haunting cover this one is.  I love Katy Perry, but lets face it, she ain't much of a singer.  Her live performances usually blow like a glory hole.  Charity here knows how to sing this song.  She sends tingles down my spine.  And if I like women, I would totally go for her.  If you like her music, you can also find her on iTunes.

Humble Beginnings

Whenever I look at successful artists, I always assume that they got to where they are based on luck and a prayer.  But it is nice to see in this video, people who have worked hard to get where they are.  These dancers at the New York City Ballet have made it to a spot in their career that people dream about.  But it wasn't just good looks and luck alone.  These dancers worked their asses off, and probably haven't eaten a solid thing in years (and I do not encourage that-every liquid diet should be supplemented with glitter, which is clearly a solid).  It's nice to see this.  I'm surrounded by people who constantly remind me that success as an actor, or an artist of any sort, is nearly impossible.  I do not believe this.  If you are doing what you love and working hard at it, success will come.  Success is also relative.  Yes, I would love to have a free Prada suit for the red carpet and a miniature dog that costs more than my rent, but there are other ways of success.  Whatever happened to being happy where you are and satisfaction?  Our generation is taught never to be satisfied and that our work is never "good enough;" things can "always be better."  I just wanted to make a statement and call BULLSHIT on that theory.  Sometimes things are fine just the way they are.

Fingering

Gotcha!  Not the fingering you were expecting.  I'm not THAT vulgar.  This art is done by Judith Braun, and she uses her fingers.  This is the second most useful thing you can do with your fingers.  I will leave the first most useful thing for you to decide.  Judith uses charcoal and her hands to create works of art.  She was on Bravo's reality show "Work of Art,"  which I enjoyed.  Although I will say that I am tired of Bravo pumping out reality shows based on the structure of Project Runway.  It's a little monotonous.  But hey, I still love it.

Relationship in 4 Min.

Thrush from Gabriel Bisset-Smith on Vimeo.

As many of you probably know, I am obsessed with the website Vimeo.  Vimeo is not just another video sharing website like YouTube.  It is a place where film makers and creative minds can come and share their art.  This video is the winner of Best Narrative on the sight.  And it most certainly is.  It is interesting to think that photography use to capture moments that were rare, whether it be a Victorian family or a battle field.  But now they capture our drunkest moments as well as our happiest moments, and sometimes drunkest and happiest moments are the same moment.  Enjoy this love story.

Ooooh, Pretty Colors

floating from floating on Vimeo.

I cannot speak for everyone else, only myself, but I often find myself stopping in mid track.  Why?  Because something catches my eye of course!  Anytime I see a sparkle or a bright color, or beauty in general, I stop and I stare.  Sorry if I have ever stared at you...take it as a compliment?  What is it about glitter and colors and texture that make me stop?  I have no clue, but I'm not worried about it.  I found this video and STOPPED.  Take some time out of your day and appreciate beauty.

If you haven't seen Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, well then do it NOW!  The other three videos are done by the girl who does the voice of Marcel and the same director.  If the girl looks familiar, its because she IS!  That is Jenny Slate from SNL.  Now if only SNL would do stuff like Marcel the Shell and Bestie Bestie then they would be in great shape, or if they just always had Justin Timberlake on.  I always laugh when he is on, and I can't tell if it's like a little-girl-giggle because he is so hot or because he is actually funny.  Either way, I am fine with looking at JT.

Not Yo Momma's Porcelain

If my grandmother had these choccies  in her apartment, I might have grown up gay...oh wait.  These are done by artists Jessica Harrison.  She really brings the strange to something so beautiful and classic, and I adore it.  I know what I'm buying my little adopted girl for her first birthday.  Some of you might have seen her work on cocoperez.com, a Perez Hilton's fashion blog.  He posted her fly leg eyelashes.  Pretty gross, but I think I have seen a few girls who have so much mascara on that they look like fly legs.

Its a Drag

This month has been deemed by LOGO as Drag History Month.  To celebrate, I am posting one of the world's best drag performances.  And I am not kidding.  After you see this, you will asking yourself  "Where did he put his balls?"  I also posted a nice cat fight between two drag queens.  It looks like something that should be on Flavor of Love and New York would totally be the one to do it.  She was such a bitch.  How in the world did she get her own show.  If you want to see more drag, click HERE.

Snow Day

http://www.inbflat.net/
Today is a snow day in Alabama, and unlike the rest of the world that gets snow, the state practically shuts down.  If you are bored, you have got to go to the link above.  It is a collaborative spoken word experiment and YOU, yes YOU get to control the song.  So if you have never made a song before, you can cross it off your bucket list.  It is so entertaining and fascinating.  A must do if you are snowed in, or bored, or cool.

Queer Streets

I saw this documentary two days ago and it is so moving.   I will be moving to New York City at the end of the summer and I never think about the homeless young adults, none the less the LGBT homeless.  These kids are prostituting themselves, addicted to drugs, and many are unable to find jobs.  But what a great place Sylvia's Place is to provide shelter whenever these kids need it.  If you would like to make a donation, you can make it via PayPal by following this link here, or you can mail a donation to:
Homeless Youth Services

446 W. 36th St.
(between 9th & 10th Ave.)

If you have a chance to see this documentary, do it.  It will open your eyes to a problem that I had no clue existed.

Zac Efron Naked

Gotcha!  But it is still him.  I was in the bar Good Friends in New Orleans, LA this past weekend and a remix video of this song came on and my jaw practically dislocated and wrists went so limp they were comparable to a  75 year old penis.  I could not believe how utterly flamboyant Zac Efron is in this video.  I mean, he flails his arms when he runs.  Vanessa has got to be his beard.

Moving Movement

Mia Michaels has done it again.  Every time I see something she choreographs, my jaw drops to the floor.  The song from this dance probs sounds familiar to you.  It is from the Broadway Musical and movie remake, RENT. This musical came out in the nineties and dealt with HIV/AIDS from every perspective; from a gay couple to a junkie.  I hope that our generation is thankful for the education in HIV/AIDS that we have had.  Please do not think that it is a disease that does not affect young adults, because it does.  Wrap it up!

A Favorite Thus Far

Dream Kitchen from Barry Dignam on Vimeo.

While perusing the internet right before bed, as I so often do, I found this diamond in a lump of coal.  I immediately fell in magic with it!  So I am sharing it with you.  This is a short film directed by Barry Dignam.  I haven't heard much of him, but he is an Irish filmmaker, and a brilliant one at that.  I find the story of this boy so humbling, for I am very lucky to come from a family that is accepting of my sexuality.  I hope everybody finds their dream kitchen one day.

New Year Reads

This new year, I have two books I am dying to read.  I mean, I would burn an Abercrombie and Fitch down to get these two books, well I would do that anyway.  My Princess Boy is written by Cheryl Kilodavis about her son who likes to wear dresses.  They gained recognition when he dressed as Cinderella for Halloween and got a lot of backlash from the school.  Now Swish is a book I have been waiting to read for about two years now.  Who wouldn't want to live the gayest life ever!  Well, I guess a lot of people.  But the book sounds so fabulous.

Gay or European?

I love this man!  He makes Single Ladies sound so inspirational!  The only problem is I can't tell if he is Gay or European?  I know he is British, but I am hoping he bats for my team.  I posted two covers and one of his original songs.  I love a piano and a good voice.  It makes me see rainbows and glitter.
