Right now I am participating in a production of Henrik Ibsen's play An Enemy of the People here at the University of Alabama. This production is not quite the gay soiree you would expect to find me in. It is about a doctor, Dr. Stockmann, who discovers the water supply to his medical baths is poisoned and is putting its visitors in harms way (circa Erin Brockovich, but with a lot less cleavage and ankle). He lets the town know the problem and they turn on him labeling him as "An Enemy of the People."
This political play has much relevance to todays society even though it was written in 1882. Dr. Stockmann can easily be compared to a gay rights activist standing up for what he believes in--against the ideas of the majority. Whether you have seen this play or not, I encourage everyone to be Enemies of the People. Stand up for what you believe in and fight for it with every shard of glitter you own. Paddle turn those conservatives away, and make a difference! We are Human and we are Beautiful!
Over and Out,
