I found this movie on Homochic.com, one of my new favorite websites. I really enjoyed it 1. because it has men in it and 2. because it deals with a very interesting subject matter. It is called "A Valentine to Loneliness." It deals with the single gay world, which I find fascinating. I myself am part of the single gay world and I find it quite fun, but not for the same reasons others might. I enjoy the freedom and the fact that I am not tied down to another twink...or tied down by another twink. This movie deals with the group of single me who use websites such as manhunt and manroulette.
What has been so fascinating to me is that this act of having sex with somebody you don't even know has started to become a cultural norm in the gay world, or at least in the town I live in. And to be completely honest and personal, I don't get it. If I don't know you, I don't want your hands to be anywhere on my body, and certainly not your mouth. Do you even brush your teeth? floss? mouthwash? manscape? To me, it lessens the value of sex--which in my mind is the ultimate expression of love and not some feel good sensation--that's what your hand is for. I prefer to put on a pair of heels and dance around my apartment in underwear to Celine Dion, and maybe do a little vacuuming while I'm at it--but that may just be me, actually, that probably is just me.
However, when I was watching this movie, I understood it, kind of, for a brief moment. Not to say that I will start doing it, but it makes sense to me. And that is what art should do.
Over and Out,
